The Safe Operation of Marine/Offshore High Voltage Power Systems (Full High Voltage Authorisation) (MAR4/OS4)
This course provides an understanding of marine/offshore high and low voltage power systems including statutory regulations, safe operation, protection and fault diagnosis on a wide range of power equipment. It enables candidates to perform advanced HV switching operations on marine/offshore HV networks up to and including 15kV as well as prepare them for HV authorisation in accordance with their company’s safety rules/regulations. It includes both classroom theory and practical exercises.
Upon completion, candidates will be assessed to a competency level suitable for switching and issuing documents for work on all types of circuit.
Course content
- Electrical hazards and precautions
- UK and International Marine health and safety regulations
- Understanding the arc blast hazard
- Operational and safety features of switchgear
- Arrangement of marine high voltage systems and switchrooms
- High voltage safety rules
- Key safes and multihasp systems
- Test equipment for proving dead
- Operational procedures
- Earthing of marine systems
- Application of electrical protection on marine power systems
- Control and synchronisation of generators
- Practical exercises
Who should attend?
Marine/offshore personnel with prior knowledge of the inspection, operation, maintenance, and repair of high voltage systems and who are to be responsible for switching and issue of safety documents. The course is aimed at personnel who are to be authorised to multiple grades of duty which company rules may acknowledge as a Senior Authorised Person (SAP).
Candidates may find it beneficial to attend our S9 course as a precursor to this course.
This course is also ran on demand, please contact us to discuss a potential booking date.
Certifications
Candidates who successfully complete the course and both theoretical and practical assessments will receive The Faraday Centre competence certificate. Candidates who fail will receive The Faraday Centre attendance certificate.
