This course covers the LCL Level 3 Award in the In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment (PAT – Portable Appliance Testing) (QCF).
This award gives an understanding of the theory and practice of the in-service inspection and testing of electrical equipment; commonly referred to as PAT testing (Portable Appliance Testing). During the course, a number of practical exercises are undertaken using a range of portable appliance testing equipment.
It will give delegates theoretical and practical experience in the implementation of a formal inspection and testing regime for electrical equipment (portable appliances).

- Hazards of electricity
- Classification of appliances
- Dangers associated with the use of various types of portable & fixed electrical appliances
- Understanding of the IET Code of Practice in relation to PAT Testing
- Statutory & Non-statutory requirements
- Equipment construction; inspection and testing theory
- Practical inspection and testing of equipment
- Completion of associated documentation
Who should attend?
Electrical and non-electrical personnel with the responsibility of carrying out formal visual inspections and tests of portable appliances. Delegates are required to be familiar with and bring to the course the most recent copy of the IET Code of Practice.
Certifications
Candidates who successfully complete the course and the LCL examinations will receive The Faraday Centre competence certificate as well as LCL accredited certificate. Delegates who fail will receive The Faraday Centre attendance certificate.
Please note this course entails an LCL on-screen examination and also a practical assessment. The on-screen examination is open book and candidates will require a copy of the IET Code of Practice for In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment. Candidates must pass BOTH the on-screen and practical assessments to achieve the qualification.
