New course launched to up-skill electrical technicians in response to industry demand

A new course has been launched to enhance the skills of those who work within the electrical sector, in response to the growing demand for multi-skilled electrical technicians.

Teesside-based electrical power training specialist, The Faraday Training Group has launched Up-Skilling, a new course which has been established to up-skill mechanical and non-electrical technicians to the point that they are electrically competent and have the skills required to install, maintain and operate low voltage electrical equipment.

The industry demand for multi-skilled technicians is threefold: to maintain profitability technicians need to operate at maximum efficiency therefore when they attend site to carry out a task, by being multi-skilled, the manpower requirements can be minimised; shortages of available skilled personnel means that up-skilling existing technicians eases ongoing recruitment issues; and up-skilling staff can help staff retention rates as it demonstrates that they are valued by employers.

The Up-Skilling course covers topics such as the fundamentals of electrical engineering; health and safety; maintenance; safety and reporting institutions; assembly, connection and commissioning of equipment; machines and technical communication and terminologies. The course runs over a ten-week period which can be split into one week modules, with a minimum of 5 mandatory modules.

The course is held at The Faraday Training Group’s purpose-built facilities at Skippers Lane Industrial Estate, Middlesbrough and Limassol, Cyprus.

Ian Pattinson, commercial manager at The Faraday Training Group, said: “Today’s industrial technician is moving away from solely being a specialist and evolving into a multi-skilled worker and this course allows delegates to up-skill their capabilities to meet this demand.

“The Faraday Training Group places great emphasis on the importance of both theoretical and practical learning, this course encapsulates both to ensure that delegates have experience and insight that they can utilise within their own working environments, in a safe and professional manner.

“We pride ourselves on offering courses which are regularly updated to meet industry regulations as well as our customers’ requirements; and already in 2017 we have launched four new courses all of which are delivered by our highly-qualified and experienced tutors. I am confident this course will make a great addition.”

The introduction of the Up-Skilling course follows The Faraday Training Group’s launch of three new EAL low voltage courses and the Refresher in the Safe Operation of Offshore/Maritime High Voltage Power Systems course, which was established earlier this year in response to customer demand for refresher and reassessment courses for the maritime industry.
